Since you cannot carry much when you are hiking, you need to prepare a list of things that you require and cannot do without. As exciting as it may be, you cannot enjoy a camping trip if you are not geared up with the right kind of camping equipment. The first and foremost thing is to get yourself a tent. When purchasing a tent try and consider all the factors, one of which is, the weather conditions of the place you are going to be staying; remember it has to suit your needs for that particular trip. The next thing that goes on your list is a comfortable sleeping bag and these come in a wide variety of shapes, sizes, material, fabric and colours. If you are looking for better insulation, then include a sleeping mat or an inflated mat, this will give you added comfort.

Your list of foodstuff that you intend to carry depends on how many people are going to eat that food. Avoid taking perishable food as it is difficult to store. Now, let’s see for cooking equipment, you need to take the following; a frying pan, utensils for eating, spoons, cups, plates, cooking spoon and a spatula. Think you will find this will do nicely. You should carry spare containers with you just in case you have any left over food; this can be stored and used for your next meal.

A camp stove can be very handy, if bad weather forbids you to light up a campfire. A camp stove is also a must. You will be amazed of how much you can do with it. Fresh meals can be cooked if you can be bothered to take time out to cook them.

Matches, llighters and flashlights are also useful items to include in the packing as fending for yourself in the dark can be difficult without them. You must also have a first-aid kit with you because it can come in handy when you are camping. Please see below some of the items included in the kit; insect repellent, aspirin, strips of band-aid, cotton balls, antiseptic ointment, gauze, sunscreen, an antibiotic, aspirin, a burn spray.

Taking the right clothes for your trip is very important; ensure they are lightweight and easy to carry but also are suitable for the weather conditions that you are likely to face. Ensure you take clothes which dry fast and which do not remain damp for an age. Lightweight rain gear could be added to your list if you wish as it may come in useful if it rains. Take the right kind of footwear, a pair of sneakers would be perfect but if you are planning a hike on rough terrain it would be suitable to have a pair of sturdy boots.

Apart from these you will need a pair of sunglasses to protect your eyes from the harsh sun. Other things you might like to consider are a small all-purpose knife, a small hatchet, a book or two and a deck of cards. Other pastime articles can be included if you can carry them.

One thing you must remember is that whatever you take with you, must be lightweight specifically if you are going backpacking because you would not want to come back with a bad back. You will be ready for your camping trip once you have gathered all the essential stuff and checked out it’s weight. Carry it about for a few minutes to see how you feel.
